Garden City

Garden City is one of those areas that makes a lot of sense on paper. You've got a huge mall right there, decent apartment blocks with security and parking, relatively green surroundings compared to most of Nairobi. On a Saturday morning it genuinely feels calm — people walking to the mall, kids at the playground areas in the estates, not much chaos. Tuesday evening is a completely different story. Thika Road is one of the worst commutes in the city and if you work in town, budget at least 90 minutes each way during peak hours. The people who love it here tend to work nearby — Kasarani, Ruaraka, or from home. Two-bedroom apartments hover around 55k, which isn't cheap but you get proper buildings with backup power and security. The food options inside Garden City Mall are decent. Outside the mall though, the immediate street-level experience is still catching up. It's not a walk-to-everything kind of neighbourhood yet.
