CityDwelling is a property database for Nairobi. We map real buildings with their exact locations, rent ranges and amenities, so you can find a home without walking into viewings blind. You can search verified listings yourself, or post a BOLO and let verified partners send you homes that fit.
Yes. Searching, saving homes, building collections and posting your first BOLO are all free. You never pay viewing fees through CityDwelling.
BOLO stands for "Be On the LookOut". You describe the home you want once: the areas, size, home type, budget and your must-haves. Verified agents, landlords, developers and property managers then send you proposals for homes that fit. Each BOLO stays open for 14 days and takes at most 12 proposals, and you get updates on WhatsApp.
Every proposal shows the home’s photos, rent and the full move-in cost: the deposit (and whether it’s refundable), rent paid up front, service charge, water and electricity deposits and any partner fee, added up into one move-in total. A partner can’t send a proposal without stating the deposit.
Proposals come from CityDwelling partners: agents, landlords, developers and property managers. Every partner verifies their ID (and their business, for companies) and is approved by our team by hand before they can respond to anyone.
Only when you tap Engage on their proposal. Until then partners see your first name and last initial, nothing more. Pass on a proposal and that partner never sees your number.
Never. CityDwelling gives you the building details and rent range up front, so you only go to viewings you’re already confident about, and you never pay to see a home.
Homes with a live vacancy are clearly marked. The database also covers buildings with no vacancy right now, so you can shortlist the places you’d move into and act fast when a unit opens. If you’d rather not wait, post a BOLO and partners will send homes that are available.
Rent ranges come from real data on similar units in the same building, collected on the ground and from renters. We look at patterns across buildings rather than a single report. Because units in one building can have different owners, the rent you’re quoted may be slightly higher or lower, but not far off.
Collections are shortlists. Save homes from any listing into a collection, invite a partner, flatmate or family member to add homes and discuss them, and keep it private or share it. You can also browse public collections, like homes under a budget or near a commute, curated by other renters.
Yes. Orbit Search lets you pick a place that matters, such as your office, school or gym, set a maximum travel time, and see every home within reach on a live map with rent prices.
Neighbourhoods across Nairobi and its suburbs, from Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Lavington and Westlands outwards, and the map keeps growing. Each neighbourhood has a guide with rents, transport, schools and amenities.
Apply to become a CityDwelling partner. It’s free to join. Once you’re verified you’ll see live BOLOs in your areas, can send homes from your own inventory, and talk to renters who have already said yes.
Search it yourself, or post a BOLO and let it find you. Both are free.
