Gathiga

Gathiga sits on the western edge of Nairobi where the city starts giving way to Kiambu County. It's residential and low-key. Tuesday evening is genuinely quiet — you'll hear birds, maybe a boda boda passing, people walking home from the stage. Saturday morning has a bit more life: a few local kiosks doing good business, people heading to the market. It's not a place you stumble into; people here mostly chose it deliberately for the space, lower rent than Westlands or Runda, and the fact that you can actually breathe. The tradeoffs are real though. You're dependent on matatus and the roads can get rough. If you need to be in CBD daily, factor in at least 45 minutes to an hour each way. Nightlife is basically nonexistent locally. But if you work from home or have flexible hours, and you want a decent compound, a garden maybe, and actual quiet — Gathiga makes a lot of sense.

Calm and spread out. People mostly mind their business. It's the kind of place where neighbors know each other's faces but aren't in each other's pockets. Crowd skews working families, teachers, small business owners. Not much foot traffic after dark. Weekends feel relaxed rather than eventful.
