Gitaru

Gitaru sits along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway corridor, just past Kawangware and before you hit Kikuyu proper. It's the kind of place where life moves at a manageable pace. Mornings are early — you'll hear matatus revving by 5:30am because people commute long distances from here. Tuesday evening feels calm, almost sleepy; Saturday morning has a small-market energy with people doing errands along the roadside dukas. Most buildings are mid-size residential blocks, tidy enough, with shops on the ground floor selling everyday basics. Nearly every property has CCTV and reserved parking, which tells you something — people here have cars or motorbikes, and they're cautious about them. What'll frustrate you: the highway traffic can be brutal if you're heading into town between 7 and 9am. There's no real nightlife to speak of. But if you work from home or have flexible hours, and you want space for your money, Gitaru makes a lot of sense. It's not exciting. That's kind of the point.
