Lower Kabete feels like proper Nairobi living without the CBD madness. Most places are apartments - 2-bedrooms around 25k, studios for 10k if you're starting out. Tuesday evenings are quiet, people getting home from work around 7-8pm. Weekends get lively with local pubs and the occasional church service spilling onto the streets. You're close enough to town that commuting isn't terrible, but far enough that rent won't kill you. The area has that lived-in feel - not fancy, but functional. Plenty of mama mbogas, decent internet in most places, and your neighbors actually know each other. Downside? Matatu routes can be unreliable during rush hour, and when it rains, some roads turn into small rivers. Water issues pop up occasionally, though most buildings have boreholes now. It's good for people who want real Nairobi life without paying Kilimani prices.

Working-class neighborhood with a community feel. Mix of families and young professionals. Reasonably quiet weekdays, livelier weekends. Not flashy but authentic.
