Muthiga

Muthiga sits west of Nairobi proper, off Waiyaki Way, and it has that neither-here-nor-there quality that actually works for a lot of people. It's residential without being sleepy. Tuesday evening is calm — kids playing outside, a few people walking back from the stage, smoke from a mama frying something nearby. Saturday morning has a bit more energy around the market area and the local shops. It's not a going-out neighborhood; you're not walking to bars or restaurants at night. But rent is genuinely affordable for what you get — most places have reserved parking, CCTV is standard now, and there are decent 2-bedrooms in the mid-20s range. The frustration is Waiyaki Way. Getting in and out during peak hours is genuinely painful. If you work in Westlands or town and need to drive, budget an extra 45 minutes each way. Matatus are available but crowded. Works best if you can work from home some days or have flexible hours.
