Ruiru

Ruiru is one of those places where you quickly realize you're not in Nairobi proper anymore — and depending on your life, that's either a relief or a problem. Rent is noticeably cheaper than Kasarani or Roysambu, and you get more space for your money. Tuesday evening is quiet, almost small-town quiet. Saturday morning the market area near the stage gets chaotic — matatus, hawkers, people everywhere. The Thika Superhighway connects you to the CBD but don't underestimate what that commute feels like at 7am or 6pm. It can be brutal. There's enough for daily life — supermarkets, hardware shops, clinics, a few decent local eateries. But if you need a good hospital, a proper mall, or anything resembling nightlife, you're driving out. Families doing okay here. Young professionals doing fine if they work remotely or can handle the commute mentally. People who need to be in town every day tend to burn out on it.
