Umoja

Umoja is one of those Nairobi estates where you actually feel like you're in a neighbourhood. People know each other. The mama mboga outside your gate knows your order. Tuesday evenings are pretty calm — you'll hear kids playing, maybe a TV through a window, matatus rolling past. Saturday mornings are a different story: markets filling up, music from somewhere, every small shop open early. It's not fancy, but it works. Rent is genuinely affordable compared to what you'd pay in Kilimani or even Buruburu. Most buildings are mid-rise flats with a shop on the ground floor, maybe a watchman. The roads inside the estate can be rough, especially after rains. And traffic on Outering Road? Budget serious time for that. But if you work somewhere nearby or don't mind a matatu commute, the value here is hard to beat. Good for people who want a real neighbourhood feel without paying Westlands prices.
